The Ahupuaa of Onouli nui, District of South Kona, Island of Hawaii, 3d Judicial Circuit.

On this the 6th day of June, A.D. 1874, the Commission of Boundaries, for the Island of Hawaii, 3d Judicial Circuit met at the house of Moses Bassett, South Kona, Hawaii, on the application of H.N. Greenwell, or the settlement of the boundaries of Onouli nui situated in the District of South Kona, Island of Hawaii. Notice of hearing served by publication in the Hawaiian Gazette of May 20th 1874 and due notice personally served on all owners or Agents of adjoining lands as far as known. Present: H.N. Greenwell, applicant, and J.G. Hoapili for the Crown, and Hawaiian government.

Sir:
In compliance with the provisions of an Act approved June 22, 1868, to facilitate the settlement of boundaries, I hereby apply to have the boundaries of Onouli nui decided and certified to by you.

The Ahupuaa of Onouli Nui is situated in South Kona, Hawaii, and it is bounded on the east by Keauhou on the north by Kalukalu, on the west by the sea and on the south by Onouli iki..

The names of owners of adjoining lands are L. Keliikolani for Keauhou.; H.N. Greenwell, John Yates (both patented) and the Aupuni for Kalukalu, Mrs. Cleghorn, A. Todd, for Atkins (all patented) and Royal Domain for Onouliiki and J.D. Paris for Kaawaloa or Kealakekua in the event of Onouli iki not reaching to the Keauhou line. Testimony

Keakaikawai, Kane, sworn: I live on Hokukano, know the land of Onouli nui. Bounded on the north side of the land of Kalukalu, from shore to near the woods. Punawai, a water-hole near the edge of the woods is the boundary. Kaimuki is the name of the spring; this spring is in the edge of the woods. There the land of Kanakau bounds Ounouli nui. Thence mauka along the Kohala side of the road that runs through the woods to Kemeki. This boundary is on the point adjoining Hokukano, not of Onouli. Then commencing at Kaimuki, the boundary runs to Kumukawau, a kauhale kahiko. We used to know the different boundaries in olden times by the old women who made tapa. They would stay on Onouli till they had used all the mamaki up and they would then move to Kaanakau, paying the different konohiki for the privilege of making kapa on these lands. Above Kumukawau Hokukano cuts Kaanakau off and bounds Onouli nui and thence along to Kahoemiemi, the boundary is a short distance on the Kohala side of Kahoemiemi; ....

.... la Nui, Keauhou 2d, Kealakekua, and Onouli nui introduced on part of applicant as to the boundaries of this tract of land, and state that the makai side is bounded by Royal Patents. And that they hve no further evidence to introduce. S.K. Kaai asked for a continuance to get acquainted with the case, as has only just come into the case. Granted until afternoon.

D.H. Hitchcock, sworn, The notes of survey I have filed are the ones I made with Keakaikawai as my kamaaina. I surveyed to the points that he pointed out as being the boundary between this tract and the adjoining lands. I notified Mr. Paris that I was going to survey the land, and he replied, that if I made it according to Keakaikawai's evidence that he would be satisfied.S.K. Kaai, J.G. Hoapili and C. Wall knew I was surveying this tract, but did not come, send any one, or make any objections to my surveying the land as Keakaikawai pointed it out. The makai line is run in accordance with the Royal Patents of makai lands.

S.K. Kaai has never given any notice of having any witnesses to be examined.

Decision
The boundaries of the above mentioned tract of Government land, are decided to be as set forth in notes of survey filed.
For Certificate of Boundaries see Folio 163, Liber I. His Royal Highness W.P. Leleiohoku, S.K. Kaai & J.G. Hoapili written to, this day informing them of decision of boundaries of this tract of land.
