Dear Sir
Mr. F.H. Harris is authorized by the commissioners of Crown lands to make application to you as commissioner of Boundaries to have the boundaries of all Crown lands on the Island of Hawaii defined. He has a list of the lands with him.
I have also authorized Mr. F.H. Harris to make application to you for the settlement of boundaries of all lands belonging to Estate of His late Majesty and Her Excellency, R. Keelikolani.
I expect to be in Kona by the trip of the "Kilauea" which leaves here on the 28th instant. Can't you make it convenient to come round as the steamer goes to Hilo on that trip.
I wish also to apply for the settlement of the boundaries of Honohina.

The undersigned would herewith make application for the settlement of the boundaries of the following named Ahupuaa or lands belonging to the Crown, viz.;
Waiakea in the District of Hilo bounded by Keaau, Olaa, Kapapala, Humuula, Piihonua
Piihonua in the District of Hilo, bounded by Punahoa, Waiakea, Humuula and Pueo, Paukaa & Alae and other lands names not known
Ponahawai in the District of Hilo bounded by Punahoa, Kukuau & other small lands.
Hakalauike in the District of Hilo, adjoining lands unknown [page 239]
Humuula in the District of Hilo bounded by Kapapala, various lands in Kona and Kohala and Hamakua, and Hakalau, Makahanaloa, Papaikou, Paukaa, Piihonua and Waiaka in the District of Hilo

.... ane, sworn, I was born in Waipio, at the time of Kiholo and have lived here most of my life. I am a kamaaina of Pohakumauluulunui and know all the boundaries. I lived mauka of the land and my parents told me the boundaries to keep me from trespassing; that was the custom in those days. [page 100] The mauka boundary of Pohakumauluulunui on the Muliwai side runs near Kanakanui's house, the land extending close to Muliwai pali and the house being on the Hilo side of the valley; thence the boundary runs toward Hilo until you come to the pali on that side; From Kanakanui's house, the mauka boundary runs towards Waimanu, along the iwi to the stream, thence across the stream; and along the iwi aina to the base of Muliwai pali; thence makai to the iwi aina; thence along Pohakumauluuluiki, across the valley towards Hilo, passing on the makai side of a place called Keloko, thence mauka along the base of the pali to the mauka boundary. This land runs up the stream to Kooiawe, thence up the stream to where two branches unite. Koiewe is the Hilo branch. Ahupuaa comes into the stream in these places. Two pieces of the stream and one runs along to Waipio and the balance to Pohakumauluulunui. They are called Kukuilauweluwelu and Una, the oopu places are called Hakalau and Luahine Naawihuki. I can point out all these boundaries.

Note: G.W.D. Halemanu states that he does not know, and has never, where the mauka boundary of Pohakumauluulunui is.

Decision
Boundaries of Pohakumauluulunui decided to be as given in the evidence of Piipali. Marks ordered to be erected and notes of survey to be filed previous to Certificate of Boundaries being issued.
