Dear Sir
Mr. F.H. Harris is authorized by the commissioners of Crown lands to make application to you as commissioner of Boundaries to have the boundaries of all Crown lands on the Island of Hawaii defined. He has a list of the lands with him.
I have also authorized Mr. F.H. Harris to make application to you for the settlement of boundaries of all lands belonging to Estate of His late Majesty and Her Excellency, R. Keelikolani.
I expect to be in Kona by the trip of the "Kilauea" which leaves here on the 28th instant. Can't you make it convenient to come round as the steamer goes to Hilo on that trip.
I wish also to apply for the settlement of the boundaries of Honohina.

The undersigned would herewith make application for the settlement of the boundaries of the following named Ahupuaa or lands belonging to the Crown, viz.;
Waiakea in the District of Hilo bounded by Keaau, Olaa, Kapapala, Humuula, Piihonua
Piihonua in the District of Hilo, bounded by Punahoa, Waiakea, Humuula and Pueo, Paukaa & Alae and other lands names not known
Ponahawai in the District of Hilo bounded by Punahoa, Kukuau & other small lands.
Hakalauike in the District of Hilo, adjoining lands unknown [page 239]
Humuula in the District of Hilo bounded by Kapapala, various lands in Kona and Kohala and Hamakua, and Hakalau, Makahanaloa, Papaikou, Paukaa, Piihonua and Waiaka in the District of Hilo

Cross-examined
I know the boundaries and can go and point them out better than I can tell them.
Piipali, kane, sworn, I was born at Waipio at the time of Kiholo and have lived here most of my life. I have seen the land of Kaohia and know where Konohiki's kuleana is. The boundary runs along Konohiki's wall to the foot of the pali; thence along the base of the pali to a rock called Kaohia; from thence along the base of the pali, along the [page 110] land of Lalakea to the boundary of Puueo; Thence out into the valley; along the banks of old kalo patches until you come to a stream crossing the auwai (which is on Kaohia) and running mauka on the bank of the stream to the mauka boundary of Kaohia; thence along the kalo patches towards the pali to Konohiki's kuleana. I can go and point out all these boundaries but I do not know the names of the different points. People (now dead) who used to live on Kaohia showed me the boundaries. In olden times they used to point them out to each other when they were cultivating food.
Cross-examined
The boundary runs out to Kuhaha stream, the ili Kuaiahape bound Kaohia on the mauka side next to the stream.
Konohiki, Kane, recalled, Kaohia does not reach to Kuhaha gulch but to the auwai, a few rods
Note: Piipali assents to the above statement and says the auwai is correct.
Decision
The boundaries of Kaohia are decided to be as given in the evidence of witnesses. Marks ordered to be erected and notes of survey to be filed previous to Certificate of Boundaries being issued
