In Re Boundaries of the Land of Laimi, District of Hilo, Island of Hawaii
The Boundary Commission met at the Court House in Hilo, August 6th, 1886, at 10 a.m. having been continued from July 30th, for the survey to be completed;
Present: D.H. Hitchcock, Kauhane, Bila Kamikana, Keoni, and others.
Notice published in the Kuokoa and Hawaiian Gazette for a hearing July 30th 1886.

The undersigned would request, that your Honor appoint and advertise a day for the Hearing and Settlement of the Boundaries of the land of Laimi, in the District of Hilo, Island of Hawaii.

Evidence
Kauhane, sworn, I have lived at Laimi. I came from Hamakua when large, and lived at Kaupakuea, then at Paukaa, when they began to cultivate cane there; then went to Laimi and was married, and lived there a long time. Pae was a brother of my wife's mother. He was a kamaaina at Laimi, and he shewed me the boundaries of the land.
Kulaikahono adjoins Laimi on this side, the boundary being a gulch called "Makolewai," [page 44]the whole distance from the sea to the upper end of the land. Kaupakuea cuts off the lands below, first Kaakapa, then Kulaikahono, then Laimi. Kauku Hill is on this side of Laimi, "Papaokihe" is the boundary at the end of Laimi, where Honomu and Kaupakuea meet.
There is an old Ohia tree called "Ohiahuluhulu" with many names marked on it, just makai of that place. Then down to "Poalua,"between Honomu and Laimi, it is a "Kele," kalo growing, at the head of Malamalamaiki 2; then down along an old road which is the boundary to "Kaloawapuhi," an awawa and pali, at the head of Malamalamaiki 1st; then down the road is on Malamalamaiki 1st, and the "huli pali" belongs to Malamalamaiki 2d, down to Kuiahinali, a ridge, then down to a "Kele maia" (banana swamp) and awawa below the woods, and along the road and "huli pali," the lands being very narrow here; we used to live near there. The water ditch belonged to Laimi, and the road was the boundary down to the land of Naomi.
Bila Kamikana, Sworn, I was born at Pepekeo, and went away when about ten years old, and returned after being grown. Kamahiai shewed me the boundaries. I also knew pae, the boundary of Laimi, on this side, is the Makolewai gulch, from the sea to the end of the land. Kulaikahono adjoins.
Then above that is Kaupakuea to the end of Laimi, at "Papaokihi," I went with Mr. Hitchcock and shewed him the boundaries when he surveyed the land. At Papaokihi, Honomu meets Kaupakuea and Laimi ends. The gulch is nearly run out here.
Then down the Honomu boundary, the old road, to "Kapoalua," and on to Kahaloa ginger, at the head of Malamalamaiki 1st, and on down the road boundary, and the awawa is the boundary between the two Malamalamaikis. [page 45] Malamalamaiki is very narrow and one side being a gulch is crooked. The road is the boundary of Malamalamaiki 1st and Laimi, down to the land of Naomi on Laimi.
D.H. Hitchcock, sworn, I surveyed Laimi, last July, for the Honomu Sugar Co. and they gave me Bila as the kamaaina. I found a small gulch to be the bound ....

.... tanding at the intersection of the old trail from Malamalamaiki 2d with old trail from Honomu, and from which point the Hawaiian Government Survey [Triangle with dot in it - Trig] Station "Kauku," bears South 62° 12' East true, distant 1710 feet; thence
17. North 85° 18' East true 1625 feet down old road, the boundary between this land and Honomu

North 50° 36' East true 855 feet along the same, to a place called Palua, where Malamalamaiki 2d cuts off Honomu, and joins Laimi, at an Ohia marked [triangle with HL in it] distant 170 feet, South from the head of the Moomoohualoa ravine, and from which point the Hawaiian Government survey Trig Station "Kauki" bears South ° 43' West true, distant 1655 feet; thence
19. North 86° 34' East true 1314 feet along Malamalamaiki 2d and old road on a narrow ridge between the Moomoohualoa and the Molokewai ravines;
20. North 67° 00' East true 451 feet along Malamalamaiki 2d and old road on a narrow ridge between the Moomoohualoa and the Molokewai ravines;
21. South 83° 33' East true 324 feet along Malamalamaiki 2d and old road on a narrow ridge between the Moomoohualoa and the Molokewai ravines;

22. North 63° 18' East true 821 feet along the same, at a place called "Kaholowaa Awapuhi" at an Ohia marked [triangle with ML in it];
23. North 56° 05' East true 2108 feet along Malamalamaiki 2d on old road;

It is therefore adjudged and I do hereby decide and certify that the Boundaries of the said land are, and hereafter shall be as hereinbefore set forth.
