Onomea District of Hilo
Governor R.A. Lyman, Commissioner of Boundaries for the 3d Judicial District
Sir:
I hereby make application to you in accordance with the law of 1868, approved June 22d 1868, to have the Boundaries of Onomea (situated in the District of Hilo, Island of Hawaii) settled decided and certified to, by you.
The lands adjoining on the Northern side are Makahanaloa, Mauka and other small lands including Kawainui.
Makahanaloa is owned by His Majesty the King, the other lands by Government, myself, Kalua and others. On the South side Kahalii, Alakahi, Mokuoniki and Puamoe adjoin. I own Puumoe. Barenaba owns Mokuoniki & Alakahi.Herewith I send you boundaries of Onomea according to the survey of D.B. Lyman, which I claim to be the correct boundaries.

The Ahupuaa of Onomea, District of Hilo, Island of Hawaii, 3d Judicial Circuit
On this, the 19th day of May A.D. 1874, the Commission of Boundaries for the Island of Hawaii, 3d Judicial Circuit, on the application of S.L. Austin, met at the Court House in Hilo, Hawaii for the settlement of the boundaries of Onomea, situated in the District of Hilo, Island of Hawaii.
Notice personally served on owners or agents of adjoining lands, as far as known.
Present: S.L. Austin, applicant, and D. Kamai for Hawaiian Government.

Testimony
F.S. Lyman, sworn, I live in Hilo and am a kamaaina of Hilo, know the land of Onomea and a part of its boundaries. Kahalii joins Onomea on the Puna side from woods to sea shore. Onomea was formerly a Government land but has now been sold.

The Commission of Boundaries for the third and fourth Judicial Circuits, Hawaiian Islands met at the Office of the Deputy Sheriff of Hawaii as Court House is being repaired.
Notice of hearing personally served on owners of adjoining lands as far as known, also published three weeks in English Languagein Hilo Tribune and in the Hawaiian language in the Hawaii Herald as follows:

Notice is hereby given that A.B. Loebenstien [sic], Attorney for the Onomea Sugar Co. Ltd, has this day filed application for the final settlement of the boundaries of the Ahupuaa of Onomea, Hilo, Island of Hawaii, Fourth Judicial Circuit and that the Certificate of Boundaries of said land be issued. It is hereby ordered that all parties interested in the boundaries of Onomea appear before me at the Court House, South Hilo, Hawaii, at 10 a.m., December 1, 1898, and show cause, if any, why said petition should not be granted.

21. North 63° 30 west 8610 feet along Papaikou Land Commission Award 11215, Boundary Certificate #165, to extreme Western mauka angle of Onomea being also the common angle of the land of Onomea with the two lands of Papikou and Makahanaloa, said point being marked by 3 ohia trees marked A/L; P/O and [Triangle]/M respectively, the coordinates of this point being South 5400 feet West 12850 feet referred to the Hawaiian Government Survey Trig Station "Kauku" while an ohia tree AL distant 140 feet further West bears South 67° 10 west "true" distant 19980 feet from same "Kauku" station.
22. North 80° 50 East 11100 feet along Makahanaloa, Land Commission Award 8559, Boundary Certificate #36 to a point at head of [page 105] government land of Kawainui;
23. South 57°45 East 1902 feet along Kawainui to an ohia tree marked [triangle] on bank of the Waimana Stream, the coordinates of which are South 5508 ft. West 16302 feet referred to the Hawaii Government Survey Trig. Station "Alala;"
24. South 57° 45 East 278 feet down bank of stream to a rock marked + in stream just below falls at junction of the Waimana with the Kawainui stream;
25. North 67° 38 East 4380 feet along Kawainui, the boundary following the North or Hamakua edge of the stream of water in the Kawainui Gulch to + marked on rock a little below junction of Kawainui and Kapuko streams;
26. South 89° 55 East 7670 feet along Kawainui, the boundary following the North or Hamakua edge of stream to old water head a little below unction of Kawainui and Kepiipiiwai Streams;
27. South 70° 54 East 6236 feet still along land of Kawainui and the North edge of stream of water to rock ledge over Waihalulu falls;
28. North 37° 15 East 980 feet along North edge of stream to bend in stream;
29. South 86° 10 East 5200 feet the boundary following the North edge of the water in the stream to the sea coast; thence around the sea coast in all it windings, the boundary being at high water mark of same, to the point of commencement, which bears from the previous station
30. South 30° 28 West 4404 feet to said Initial Point, and containing an area of 2579 acres more or less.
It is therefore adjudged, and I do hereby certify and decide that the boundaries of the said land of Onomea, are, and hereafter shall be as hereinbefore set forth.
Given under my hand at Hilo, Island of Hawaii, the Twenty-fifth day of July A.D., one thousand nine [sic eight] hundred and ninety-nine.
