Dear Sir
Mr. F.H. Harris is authorized by the commissioners of Crown lands to make application to you as commissioner of Boundaries to have the boundaries of all Crown lands on the Island of Hawaii defined. He has a list of the lands with him.
I have also authorized Mr. F.H. Harris to make application to you for the settlement of boundaries of all lands belonging to Estate of His late Majesty and Her Excellency, R. Keelikolani.
I expect to be in Kona by the trip of the "Kilauea" which leaves here on the 28th instant. Can't you make it convenient to come round as the steamer goes to Hilo on that trip.
I wish also to apply for the settlement of the boundaries of Honohina.

The Ahupuaa of Ponohawai, District of Hilo, Island of Hawaii, 3d Judicial Circuit
On this, the 29th day of September A.D. 1873, the Commission of Boundaries for the Island of Hawaii, 3d Judicial Circuit met at the Court House in Hilo, Island of Hawaii, on the application of J.O. Dominis, Agent for Crown Lands, for the hearing of testimony of witnesses; for the settlement of the boundaries of Ponohawai, situated in the District of Hilo, Island of Hawaii aforesaid.
Notice of the hearing of said application, served on the Agents or owners of adjoining lands, as far as known.
Present: E.G. Hitchcock for applicant for the Estate of M. Kekuanaoa, for Pio Dias and P. Naholehua, Guardian of A. Kuniakea.

Certificate of Boundaries of Punahoa 1 and Royal Patent of Punahoa 2d filed for a portion of the boundaries on the Hamakua side of the land of Ponohawai.
Testimony
Kekai, kane, sworn, Piihonua joins Ponohawai at Puuike, at the mauka corner of Punahoa; Puuike is a hill with banana trees growing on it, situated on the Puna side of the lava flow of 1855. Thence the boundary of Ponohawai runs along the land of Piihonua on the Puna side of the lava flow to Nahuina, about as far mauka of Puuike as from Court House to Puuhonua. (the mauka hill of that tree hill back of town); thence mauka to Nahaleoeleele, a hill; this hill is at the mauka corner of Ponohawai and the junction of Kaaumana with Piihonua and close to the Puna side of the lava flow of 1855; Thence the boundary between Kaaumana and Ponohawai runs makai, along the old road to Ninaukala, an oioina, and kulana kauhale, thence, [page 13] makai to Waaloa, kulana kauhale kaawili manu; thence makai to Keokeo, an old kulana kauhale; thence makai to Kapaaua, a kulana kauhale and banana grove; thence to Keopuoa, a kauhale; thence makai to I. Papai, a kauhale nui, and water hole on Ponohawai; thence makai to Moenaoniau; kauhale maia malaila; thence to Ahuaohia, a kauhale and maia malaila; thence to Paaiono, a kauhale opposite to Laumaia on Punahoa; thence makai to Makena a kulana kauhale, where we used to mahiai and make canoes; thence makai to Kaumaumaamoho, a kauhale; thence to Kamokulehua, where ki grows in the woods close to the road; thence makai to Naupuauala, a kauhale kahiko, with ki and maia growing; thence makai to Kaaimau, a kauhale, mahiai with ki and yams growing; thence makai to Koali, a kauhale where we used to get mamake; thence to Punakokoke, a high hill on Ponohawai from which you can see the sea shore. The road on the Puna side of this hill is the boundary; thence makai to Kaumukii, a kauhale, where we used to go after yams for poi; thence makai to Kaenaena, a kauhale, thence to Kekii, an ahua; thence to Alena, a place on Ponohawai where bananas and orange trees are growing; thence to Kapala, a kulana kauhale, at the lower edge of the woods; thence makai to Poauwai, near an orange tree, outside of the woods, and where the water was taken out of the gulch; thence makai to Puuuluahine, the boundary running on the Hilo side of this place; thence to Kaluakaumana, a lua on the mauka side of the gulch where I have planted bamboo. This is the makai corner of Kaaumaka; thence to Nahoanaokaalu, which is the south corner of Kaumana and junction of Ponohawai and Kukuau. The swamp above the bakeryon the beach is on Ponohawai, and the dry land, on the Hamakua side of said swamp is on Punahoa, the spot where the old cocoanut tree, which was used as a whipping post, used to stand is on the boundary; thence direct to the sea shore. The sea belongs to Waiakea. The fence near the Hale Paikii is not on the boundary. It is on Ponohawai.
