1873, Boundary of the Ahupuaa of Hanapepe

Received the following petition, Honolulu July 8th 1873, (No. 17)

Honorable Duncan McBryde, Commissioners of Boundaries for the Island of Kauai, Hawaii Territory

Sir:
I am directed by the Commissioners of Crown Lands to make application to you to define and settle the boundaries of the following lands on the Island of Kauaiviz.
The Ahupuaa of Waimea
The Ahupuaa of Hanapepe
The Ahupuaa of Anahola
The Ahupuaa of Hanalei
I am sir, Your Obedient Servant
Jn O. Dominis, Crown Commissioner and Land Agent

Thereupon appointed the 25 day of November A.D. 1873 for the hearing of said application and from the evidence of the following natives. Apai, Helelela, Hohoiaa, Kanupahu and Naoa rendered the following decision.

Decision
The Eastern boundary of this land commences on the sea shore at the Southwest corner of Wahiawa at a point called Kenakua at which place is an arch in the Rock or Cliff with the sea washing through it. Thence to the centre of a pile o ....

North 41? 49' East 2500 links along the ridge, thence
North 5? 23' West 1710 links along ridge, thence
North 42? 23' West 2059 links along ridge. Thence
North 13? 32' West 1400 links along the ridge. Thence
North 66? 30' West 750 links along the ridge. Thence
North 3? 40? West 5600 links along the ridge to the edge of the bush, thence continuing along the ridge until joining the spur leading from Kahili peak.
[Note: surveyed on magnetic reading var. 8? 41' East]

Returning again to Ahualiku Peak, the boundary runs
South 39? 27' West 325.00 links to two flat stones at old roadway. Thence
South 36? 31' West 2740 links to the sea shore, thence following along the shore in an easterly direction to place of commence, see plan.

Within this land are situated the lands of Eleele, Kuiloa, Manuahi, Koula, and a land owned by Mr. Rowell. Therefore the area is not given in survey.
