Claim 629, S. Reynolds, January 26 [1848]
Know all men by these presents that I, Benjamin Pitman, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hilo Island of Hawaii for and in consideration of 1700 dollars to me in hand paid by Stephen Reynolds, a citizen of the United States, residing in Honolulu, Island of Oahu, the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge, do by these presents, give, grant, bargain, sell & convey unto the said Stephen Reynolds, his heirs, and assigns, a certain piece & parcel of land situated in Honolulu aforesaid, with the buildings thereon, bounded & described as follows: viz.
Beginning on the Main Street by land of Paki,
Southeast ½ South51 ft; thence by land of Haalilio
Northeast ½ East 115 ft. to land of Charlotte Holmes & Robert & Davies; thence by said Holmes & Davies land
Northwest ½ North 59 ft. to land of Paki; thence by Paki's land
Southwest ½ North 115 ft. to the street and corner first mentioned, making an oblong square; together with all t ....

.... property had been mine previously and Gummer is living there. Chapman's and Lawlor's interest had been from Poki in the 1829 and I think they had obtained that property because they had given a portion of this property as if it had been a sale. This place is for Chapman (plural), Kapamoo by name.
French had received an interest from Chapman by a mortgage. After this Chapman went on a sea voyage and it was believed that he had drowned, so that property was completely possessed by French. Later French had a sale with E.L. Gray."
Thomas Cummins, sworn by the Word of God and stated, "I have seen that property acquired by Chapman (plural) in the year 1838. The chief and Poki had given these two (people) that place. Later they had become indebted to French, so the property was taken by him. Still later French sold that property to E. Gray and it is believed that Gray has sold this place to B. Pitman, one half of which had been already sold to T. Haalilio. The remaining half named Kanaana is the portion to Pitman."
