Presented to Land Commission Board, January 18, 1848
A land in the village of Kainoliu - its name is Kanainiki containing 7 ilis. This land was granted to me for services rendered to His Royal Majesty, Kamehameha I.
No. 2 - a house lot granted me by Kuakini situated in Kailua, for services rendered him in 1822.
No. 3 - One ili of land situated in Kailua Hawaii granted by Kamehameha I in 1814 for services rendered to him.
The above claims can be well substantiated.

No. 1. Kainaliu, John Ii, sworn, (containing 7 Ilis) I know this place. It is called Honuaino Ili. I heard in old times of claimant receiving it from Kamehameha I. In 1843 I went there and saw claimant in possession and the improvements.
It is bounded:
Kaali side by Honuaino aha
Mauka indefinitely
Kohala side by Honuaino elua.
Makai by sea.
I understood claimant's services as blacksmith for the King were the cause for this grant.
No. 2. I know this house lot in Kailua, called Paounu [paoUmi], where the old King Umi lived. It is fenced and has some houses. Mr. Metcalf's survey as to bounds is correct. Kuakini gave claimant this piece for his services which I think he first formally possessed in 1829. He has lived there ever since & I know no counter claimant.
No. 3. I know claimant has an ili in Kailua. I do not know its boundaries. It was given him by Kamehameha I for services; and he has held [it] without dispute till this time.
Kekuanaoa, sworn, I have no doubt of claimant owning all these lan ....

On the Kohala side of Honuaino two (ilis) and
A beach is on the oceanside.
It is my belief that Kamehameha had given this land to him (Rice) because he (Rice) was Kamehameha's blacksmith and no one has ever objected.
The house lot at Kailua: Rice's house lot at Kailua is named Umi. It has been enclosed and there are houses. The boundaries are shown in the map of the lot. I believe Kuakini had given this interest in the year 1829 and since then to this day, no one has objected.
Ili land at Kailua.
This is hearsay only, for I have not known clearly that Kamehameha had given this land to Rice nor do I know the boundaries or the person who had objected to him."
Kekuanaoa, sworn by the Word of God and stated, "I had heard only at the time of Kamehameha that this land was for Rice and he had received it from Poe. I have heard the names of the land. They are true and are the same as mentioned above. I had issued the ililand of Kailua to him by the chief's request. I had not seen the house lot at Kailua before, only recently I have known the place to be for Rice; however, I do not know the boundaries.
There is another house lot at Kailua, Hawaii. He had lived there in the year one thousand eight hundred twenty-two. Rice had received this interest from Kuakini and he has lived there since then to this day.
No one has ever objected."
