I, Kamehameha III, the King of the Hawaiian islands, and Kekauluohi, the Regent and Premier of the Kingdom, do hereby convey absolutely to William Sumner and his heirs born in Hawaii, a certain land in Honolulu, Island of Oahu, called Kahaohao, this land being combined with the sea of Koholaloa, on the west of the awa / a landing place, a harbor/, boundaries being as follows:

Commencing at the Kuanalu /where the waves break/ at the depth of five feet, and running to the west at this break of the waves, perhaps 785 fathoms, then turn to the north and run along the boundary of perhaps 965 fathoms, at this said boundary, a two foot depth of the sea at high tide, and dry at low tide. Then turn to the southeast and run diagonally until a five foot depth is reached, and from this depth running to the corner first spoken of. Here is the nature of the dry land adjoining said sea, 240 fathoms long and 92 wid ....

This claim is clear by the writ of lease signed by the king and his premier for the land Kahaohao in Honolulu, Oahu. The best witnesses were reserved for the land of Kaholaloa. This claim had been included /in the lease/ which was written on April 17, 1840. It was conveyed to him and his heirs outright. William Richards and Cooke are the witnesses for this land. See page 313
