To the Honorable Board of Commissioners, &c:
Gentlemen: In pursuance of your advertisement I hereby forward you the claims by which I now hold and have ever held, the land of Kulaimano in the district of Hilo on the Island of Hawaii. In the years 1820 & 1821 I resided in Honolulu and built a small frame house for Kaahumanu (now in possession of Mr. Gravier) with which she was so pleased that she tried to persuade me to reside on the Islands and offered me lands, but I told her I must go home, but would come out again. .... rty. The first testimony for the land is the document dated the 19th of February 1846 granting the land to Kekuanaoa and this document for lease has been approved and certified.

Kekuanaoa, sworn by the Bible and said, "It was I who had written my name on this document and the words within this document are mine; however, it is not a lease. I have definitely made Mi Kakela an assistant konohiki and should there be an error in his work, then I may dismiss him. The same would apply to Victoria and me. Should my operations be at fault, however, this land has been granted to the King as his division."
