Royal Patent, Upon Confirmation of the Land Commission.

WHEREAS, The Board of Commissioners to quiet Land Titles have by their decision awarded unto M. Kekauonohi, Land Commission 11216, an estate of Freehold less than Allodial, in and to the Land hereafter described, and whereas proper application having been made to the Minister of Interior by W.M. Gibson, the present occupier of the Ahupuaa of Palawai, Island of Lanai and whereas the commutation on such land was relinquished by order of the Privy Council,

Therefore, Lunalilo Kalakaua, by the Grace of God, King of the Hawaiian Islands, by this Royal Patent, makes known to all men, that he has, for himself and his successors in office, this day granted and given absolutely, in Fee Simple, unto M. Kekauonohi all that certain piece of land situate known as the Ahupuaa of Palawai, in the Island of Lanai, and described as follows:

Commencing at a concrete post (the same being the point of commencement of Kanao Survey, at the sea shore near the middle of Kanele Harbor, the boundary runs

25. South 6° 6' East true 1779 feet along Kealia, aupuni, to a large pile of stones, at seashore at a place called “Lae Paakai”
26. Thence across sea shore to point of commencement. The traverse along the shore being as follows:
1. South 82° 48' East true 6575 feet to Manele Point
2. North 20° 1' East true 2301 feet to Manele Point
3. North 22° 37' East true 292 feet to commencement.

Containing an area of Two thousand eight hundred & ninety seven 1/10 Acres, more or less; excepting and reserving to the Hawaiian Government, all mineral or metallic mines of every description.

To Have and to Hold the above granted land in Fee Simple, unto the said M. Kekauonohi, his [sic her] Heirs and Assigns forever, subject to the taxes to be from time to time imposed by the Legislative Council equally, upon all landed Property held in Fee Simple.

In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the Hawaiian Islands to be affixed this Eleventh (11) day of April 1878.
